How to slow down?

Recommended Posts

Hey wonderful people!
My life is going out amazing, I've recovered fully from addiction and  I became vegan and also I learned how to cook healthy food also I am practicing yoga daily....I can go forever about how blessed I am, But I am not here to share my wins.

I want to teach myself to slow down not only mentally but also physically.

Even If I am not anxious, I find moving/eating/reading fast tend to send signals to my brain that I am anxious.

Looking back I am much slower and calmer than I was before, But I am looking for ways to support my practice since I did notice that when I am behaving slowly it's much easier to be present and to practice loving kindness.

Hi Ali Zien! Nice to hear from you - and that's a lovely intention to set for yourself.

Have you tried any movement-based meditations, such as mindfulness of walking or mindful eating? These could be interesting practices to explore.

I also practice Hatha yoga, which involves holding poses for extended lengths of time and turning each asana into a meditation of its own.

Do you feel drawn to any of the above? If so, here are a couple of resources to start off:

An article about Hatha yoga - https://www.ekhartyoga.com/articles/philosophy/what-is-hatha-yoga

Mindful walking worksheet - https://mindfulnessexercises.com/mindful-walking-worksheet/

Mindful eating for the holidays guide (does not have to be holiday specific) - https://mindfulnessexercises.com/9-mindful-eating-tips-for-the-holidays/

Great! Keep us posted on how your journey of slowing down goes 🙂

Oh, another idea that just popped into my head is colouring! I have a book of mandalas and pencil crayons that I find very helpful to ease my mind and enhance my ability to move slowly and stay present.
