  1. I usually sleep pretty well, but when I don't, it's usually because I've napped late in the day or am mentally preoccupied with something. Lavender oil and deep, mindful breathing usually help to settle me. A while ago, I also discovered a practice called 4-7-8 breathing (by Andrew Weil), which I used to practice more regularly - it's very settling! Any other sleep tips?
  2. Maybe I wouldn't go so far as to say it's my favourite (because they all have unique properties and characteristics) but I love the idea of the heart chakra representing the balancing point between earthly and divine energies. I find just coming into the heart space to be such a balancing and resetting practice when I'm feeling fearful or too 'heady'. Does anyone else connect with the heart chakra in this way or have experience meditating on it?
  3. Unless I'm in a yoga class or listening to a guided meditation/practice, I tend to practice mindful breathing as opposed to specific breathing practices that involve some element of control or rhythm. What about you? What is your favourite breathing technique?
  4. Can any one share any insights or personal practices when it comes to expressing feelings, needs, or desires?
  5. Does anyone have a favourite mantra they use for meditation? I really love the Om Asatoma mantra - plus this beautiful rendition:
  6. Is anyone else familiar with the seven hungers? This book by Jan Chozen Bays has really shifted my awareness of which part of me is hungry when I eat/am craving something: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5776663-mindful-eating
  7. I'm thinking this thread can be used to share what your affirmation for the day is. What do you wish to embody for the rest of your waking day? Today, mine is: I am confident, capable, and worthy.
  8. Does anyone have any insights or experience with mindfully moving through pain?
  9. For a long time I thought that if I was 'spiritual enough', I should be okay with anything OTHER THAN abuse in a relationship; that if something didn't sit right with me, it was largely my own problem that needed changing. However, in the past few years I've started to understand that healthy boundaries in a relationship are crucial, and that it is a sign of strength to be able to express our needs, hopes, and wishes in an intimate relationship. Of course, we also benefit from being open to the idea that our boundaries and needs can shift and adapt overtime as trust in a relationship grows. Does anyone have experience with navigating personal needs and establishing boundaries?
  10. Does anyone have experience with changing their experience of work, either through finding a new job or career path OR shifting their perspective of their job?
  11. I'm starting to see my parents in a new light - beginning to understand them in a new way and find greater empathy for their own lived experiences. I think this has come down to 1) growing up, and 2) having some difficult conversations that, in the end, ultimately strengthened my relationship to each of them. Does anyone else have experience with their understanding of their parents shifting over time?
  12. Has anyone read anything be Gabor Maté? Or listened to any of his interviews/talks? I started reading 'In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts' a few years ago and never finished, but lately I've been really drawn to his work after listening to him interviewed by Russell Brand. I love his take on and understanding of craving and addiction.
  13. How would you define love? Are there different definitions of love based on what we're referring to? For instance, what is love for our partners or children vs. universal love?
  14. My go-to gratitude practice is holding silence for a brief moment once my partner and I have sat down for dinner - a moment to just give quiet thanks for the meal, my partner's love and presence, my own gifts and strengths, the safe place I live in, my breath, and so on and so on. What are your favourite gratitude practices?
  15. I've come to realize that no matter how much I try to 'prepare' myself for loss, death, and pain in life, so long as I'm human, these experiences will continue to come to me. I'm getting better at holding space for myself to just be with grief when it's very much present within me. Does anyone else have insight into how to authentically navigate loss and sorrow?
  16. A lot of mindfulness-related notions and principles make a lot of sense when we're feeling balanced and, at minimum, 'okay.' But, it can be so hard to embody this knowing when anxiety or fear arises strongly. Does anyone have insights or specific practices that have proven helpful in these instances? I'm often amazed at how simple breath awareness - even for 10 seconds!! - can greatly reduce any feelings of stress and anxiety when it's risen. However, it's sometimes difficult to even remember this simple trick!
  17. Hi Karen! It's great to have you here and to virtually meet you 🙂  It's great to hear about the work you do. It is SO important for more children to be exposed to this way of being and relating to themselves and the world. Is there anything in particular you're interested in learning more about here or discussing?
